Membership
The Indian Registry/Band Membership Clerk keeps updated records and maintains proper files supporting the membership list. The Indian Registry/Band Membership Clerk maintains an updated membership list and is managed on behalf of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC). AANDC provides some funding for this certified position and the remaining amount comes from band base funding.
Services provided by Indian Registry and Band Membership include:
- Registers Births, Deaths*, Marriages, etc.
- Provides information and assistance to access information on wills, estates, and trusts (AANDC).
- Certificate of Indian Status cards
* It is the responsibility of families and next-of-kin to provide a copy of Death Certificates to the Indian Registry/Band Membership in order for the deceased to be removed from the band membership list.*
