Education and Training Services

The Education and Training Services in Skownan First Nation in categorical terms is a priority. There have been many positive changes for the betterment of all members. Priority to network the education, training , and early childhood development into one department is essential for us.

Education and Training consists of:

  • Education Program
  • Employment and Training
  • Elsie Catcheway Memorial Early Learning Centre (Day Care)

  • The Skownan First Nation Education Program provided assistance to as many eligible students as possible while staying within budget.

In 2016:

  • Skownnan School Grade 9 Graduates: Four (4)
  • Grade 12 Graduates: Ten (10)
  • Skownan Adult Education Centre: Eight (8)
  • Post-Secondary Graduates: Seven (7)

In 2017:

  • Skownan School Grade 9 Graduates: Eight (8)
  • Grade 12 Graduates: Fourteen (14)
  • Skownan Adult Education Centre: Seven (7)
  • Post Secondary Graduates: Five (5)
  • Skills Link Program

Two youth from Skownan First Nation were hired and have a 1 year term contract beginning July 4, 2017.  The First Nations Inuit Skills Link Program supports activities that assist young people in acquiring the essential skills that will help them gain employment, function well in the workplace and learn about job and career options.They will assist the departments at Skownan First Nation.

Post Secondary Applications

Other services include liaison with Frontier School Division and Career Trek. The Education and Training committee are also responsible for all the services listed above.
